Best conversation I had this week. Try writing script-style (or with dialogue) today to recap an awesome conversation you had this week.
Today was a fantastic day. We were invited to an Easter brunch at a friend’s house and engaged in conversations with different people from all over about so many different topics. We had a blast.
Then, upon returning home, we got a text from other friends asking if our daughter wanted to go over to their house to swim. While discussing this with my husband, he said, “Hey, ask if they want to come over for barbecue tonight!”
I did, they said yes, and this somewhat uncharacteristically impulsive invitation led to the most fantastic conversation I had this week.
I’d love to provide exact quotes of dialogue or even tell you what we talked about in depth, but I honestly can’t. I know the topics included home remodeling, parents, divorce, military benefits, war, dogs, keeping kosher for passover, exercise, and so much more. It wasn’t so much WHAT we talked about but rather HOW we discussed it.
The conversation was so fast-paced and comfortable between the four of us, topics switched at a lightening-fast pace but no one was left behind in the race. I teased at times and was teased at others, laughed a lot and caused some laughter as well. This is a couple that we don’t spend much time with or know all that well, but when we do get the opportunity to socialize it’s always just a pleasure. Today was certainly no exception but this time especially, left me smiling, happy and wondering why the heck I don’t do that more often.
When life gets really busy as it so often does, it’s easy to get caught up in the social obligations you feel compelled to fulfill and forget about or de-prioritize the friends you truly want to spend time with or get to know better. Today was a day we spent with friends because we just wanted to and I’m so glad we did. The conversations alone were amazing.
nicely done – glad you had a good day with friends. You are right the subject doesn’t always matter as much as the company.
